Italian Language courses
The Dante Alighieri Society Canberra offers formal courses in the Italian language at all levels, subject to sufficient enrolments to ensure the financial viability of each class. Persons intending to enrol should be current members of the Dante Alighieri Society Canberra.
Language classes are held at Telopea Park School, on New South Wales Crescent in Barton, ACT. There is plenty of free parking available, as well as bathroom facilities.
Class levels
Course outlines are given as a guide on what will be covered during each course, and enquiries can be directed to the Classes coordinator.
Levels we offer:
Italian for Tourists
Beginners
Elementary
Intermediate I
Intermediate II
Advanced
What level are you?
The course you enter will be determined in consultation with the teacher, who may use a Class Placement Assessment in the first class - unless you enrol at Beginner level.
Course Outlines set out the course pre-requisites to assist you in enrolling at the appropriate level.
Classes Coordinator
The Classes Coordinator is Yvette Devlin, who is also a Dante committee member. She is responsible for the following tasks:
- liaising with and supporting teachers, and arranging relief for absent teachers
- organising and participating in teacher training days, and providing teachers with a Teachers' Package
- setting and implementing policy on deferment and refund requests
- analysing student feedback and reporting to the Committee, to teachers and to members
- monitoring enrolments and ensuring the financial viability of classes
Teachers
Our teaching staff consists of either qualified teachers or native Italian speakers with wide teaching experience.
Our 2009 teachers were: Pauline Adams, Livio Chicco, Antonietta Cooper and Murien Pluchino. These and others will be involved in running the 2010 classes.
Evaluation of Classes
The Dante Alighieri Society runs an evaluation of the classes at the end of each term, and values the feedback of students to improve the quality of our language services and ensure student satisfaction.
The evaluation forms are completed anonymously and are placed in a sealed envelope for the Classes Coordinator to view and assess.
Cost
The term runs for 10 weeks, with a 2 hour session held each week on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening. The cost is $240.00 and a discount of 10% applies to continuing students. There is an additional fee of $50.00 for the recommended textbook.
Refund Policy
On their enrolment form students will find the statement that the Dante Alighieri Society of Canberra does not refund fees. In the interest of fairness and in very exceptional circumstances, however, it does grant
deferments or refunds. The Society's Refund and deferment policy document sets out the general approach as well as the exceptional circumstances taken into account.
